Support
RoughCut is made by LiVuP LLC. We read every message and answer as quickly as we can, usually within two business days.
Contact us
Email support@livup.app. To help us respond in one round trip, please include:
- Your macOS version and RoughCut version (RoughCut → About RoughCut)
- Your Final Cut Pro version
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
- Optionally, an exported diagnostic report (see below)
Diagnostic reports
RoughCut never transmits diagnostics automatically. If we need more detail, you can export a diagnostic report from within the app, open it to see exactly what it contains, and attach it to your email only if you're comfortable doing so. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Troubleshooting
RoughCut can't see my Final Cut Pro libraries
macOS requires explicit permission before an app can read files. Open RoughCut, choose the library location when prompted, and grant access. If you dismissed the prompt, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders (or Full Disk Access) and allow RoughCut, then relaunch the app. Libraries stored on external or network volumes must be mounted before RoughCut launches.
No transcripts appear for my clips
RoughCut reads transcriptions that already exist in your library. If a clip has never been transcribed, generate the transcription in Final Cut Pro first, then refresh the library in RoughCut.
Create Final Cut Project fails or does nothing
Creating a project uses Final Cut Pro automation. Make sure Final Cut Pro is installed and has been launched at least once, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation and enable Final Cut Pro under RoughCut. If the toggle is missing, quit both apps, relaunch RoughCut, and try again so macOS re-issues the prompt.
I can't find the Workflow Extension
In Final Cut Pro, choose Window → Extensions and pick RoughCut. If it isn't listed, launch the RoughCut app once so macOS registers the extension, then restart Final Cut Pro.
FCPXML export won't import
Import the exported .fcpxml through File → Import → XML in Final Cut Pro. If clips come in offline, the source media has moved since the library was indexed — relink in Final Cut Pro, then re-export from RoughCut.
My trial or purchase isn't recognized
The 7-day trial starts the first time you successfully create a Final Cut Pro project. Purchases are handled by Apple, so make sure you are signed in to the Mac App Store with the Apple Account used at purchase, then choose Restore Purchases in RoughCut.
Something else is wrong
RoughCut can export a diagnostic report describing what the app did, which you can review before sending. Nothing is transmitted automatically — you decide whether to attach the file to an email to support.
Purchases and refunds
One-time in-app purchase. No subscription. Browsing libraries, searching transcripts, building Rough Cuts, Cards and Script views and saving .roughcut documents are free forever. Creating editable Final Cut Pro projects is unlocked by the one-time purchase named "Create Final Cut Projects". A 7-day trial starts the first time you successfully create a Final Cut Pro project.
All payments are processed by Apple through the Mac App Store. Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds on Apple's behalf, but tell us what went wrong and we'll try to fix it. See the Terms and Privacy Policy.
